Luca Barberini
Born in Ravenna in 1981, Luca Barberini honed his artistic talents in a city globally renowned for
its early Christian and Byzantine mosaics. From this rich heritage, he draws inspiration and
transforms its legacy into contemporary art. Barberini graduated from the Gino Severini State Art
Institute in 1999/2000 and furthered his education through practical experiences. Shortly after,
he co-established the Koko Mosaico studio with Arianna Gallo.
Over the years, Barberini's studio has facilitated collaborations with notable artists such as
Domingo Zapata, Ale Giorgini, Gianluca Costantini, Valerio Adami, and Olimpia Zagnoli. His
personal exploration of an imaginative universe compelled him to innovate within the mosaic
technique, carving out a distinctive artistic research trajectory. A hallmark of his style, his piece
"Folla," was acquired by the Ravenna City Art Museum in 2011. His association with the museum
continued with his participation in the 2014 collective exhibition "Eccentrico Musivo" and
winning the GAEM - Young Artists and Mosaic award in 2015.
In recent years, Barberini's works have been showcased in both solo and group exhibitions across
national and international venues, including Ravenna, Bologna, Mantua, Rome, Venice, Paray le
Monial(France), Chartres(France) Frankfurt/Słubice (Poland), Dallas, Montreal(Canada), Taipei,
Yokohama, and Tokyo. His artwork "Tsunami 00" was prominently featured as the visual identity
for the tenth edition of TEDxLakeComo in 2019.
Notable recent exhibitions include the 2023 solo exhibition "Catodica" at the Cultural Heritage
Department venue during the Ravenna Contemporary Mosaic Biennial, and "Tessere i sogni" at
the Modern Art Gallery in Riccione's Villa Franceschi. In 2022, he presented his solo exhibition
"Oceandipity" at Ravenna's Rasponi dalle Teste palace and participated in the group exhibition "Il
paesaggio" at the Civic Museum of Cappuccine in Bagnacavallo. In 2021, his works were
displayed at the Musashino City Kichijoji Art Museum in Tokyo and the Backs Gazai Art Gallery in
Kyoto, alongside his collaborator and friend Takahiro Watanabe. His 2019 highlights include an
artist residency at Neo House in Tokyo, the solo exhibition "Clorofilla" at Forlì's Monte di Pietà
Palace, and participation in the historical exhibition "Fato e destino tra mito e contemporaneità"
at Mantova's Ducal Palace. In 2017, he exhibited "Particle" at Ravenna's Magazzeno Art Gallery,
